The population of the United States was just over 250 thousand people in 1700. In the fifty years from 1700 to 1750, the population grew by more than 4 times to over one million people. By 1800, population was over 5 million growing by about the same fast pace. By 1850, over 23 million people populated the country. Population growth slowed down, but by 1900 there were over 76 million Americans. Fifty years later in 1950, the population almost doubled to just over 151 million. The estimated population today is over 330 million.
